Step 1. Pre-portrait consultation:

A photographer for your session will speak to you about your portrait session. Pre-portrait consultations are held via phone or Skype. You can also elect for a personal meeting. Clients can find out about products on offer before their family shoot.

During the consult, we will discuss with you some options on what to wear to your portraits. A location and time for your session will be locked in and payment options discussed.

Step 2. The portrait shoot:

Traditional/Styles sessions for families are up to an hour long (obviously this depends on your kids). Documentary/Lifestyle portrait sessions are up to 2 hours in duration. The experience is fun, rich and vibrant.

Please be yourself with no need to stress out as we are very patient. Kids especially can feel stressful vibes and this could make things difficult for the photo shoot.

A portrait with Dezire Studios will be candid and natural. It will capture your lifestyle and personality. We recommend you arrive 5 – 10 minutes before your session time to help children adjust to the environment.

Step 3. First, sneak peek:

The first 48 hours

A sneak preview of your photo session will be shared withing 48 hours. A social media link will be sent, which can be shared with family and friends.

Images posted online are generally proof standard only and copyright restrictions apply for downloading and printing.

Step 4. Preview and ordering:

21 days

A full preview of you photographs is available within 3 weeks of your portrait sitting. At the viewing, you will re-live your family photo shoot and finalise which photographs will make up your order.

Our stylish, interactive presentation includes a virtual preview software. View images as if finished prints in your home. Finalise your purchase with complete confidence.

A selection of 35 -50 images will be shown to help you purchase a custom wall print. A preview of 100-150 images will be displayed for album purchases. A pre-designed version of your album will assist your order.

Step 5. Collecting your order:

28 days

Placing the bulk of your order at the preview session will ensure there are no delays in collecting your order. Framed print, albums and digital collections are to be picked up together. If there is no delays in stock from our suppliers your complete order should be ready for collection within 4-6 weeks from the time you placed the order.

An online gallery will be available to your family for 3 days after your preview session. The extended family order will be ready for collection when your order is ready.

Step 6. Online options and downloads:

Once your completed order from the portrait photography session has been collected, clients that have ordered digital version will be given a code to download the high-resolution version. This code can be shared with family and friends. The standard gallery is available for 3 months online. Online orders can still be placed during this time.

Wedding day coverage

Wedding day coverage – A documentary style

Wedding day coverage starts with the bridal preparations. Photography of the Bridal preparations has been an important part of the wedding day photography for many decades.

In the earlier days, photographs of the bridal preparations was a very formal occasion with many posed photographs with the Bride & Grooms parents and family.

Although the formal side is still important, our photography studio focuses on documenting the significant events and emotions of the Bride and groom during their final preparations for the big event.

Brides coverage

For the girls, this is a quite a magical lasting experience and generally we spend the last 1.5 hours with girls prior to the ceremony.

Wedding day coverageGrooms coverage

For the guys, coverage is more concise and also optional. 30 minutes of photographic coverage of the groomsmen preparation is usually sufficient.

Logistically, the groomsmen coverage will take place prior to the bridesmaids, and an allowance of travel time between the two locations will need to be taken into account when planning your timeline.

Wedding day coverage

Enough time for Photographs

For a more enjoyable wedding experience, plan a relaxed, generous time frame throughout the day. At many weddings, couples leave too little time for hugs and kisses with the guests, family photos, and bridal party photos after the ceremony.

A timeline that is not crammed or rushed will allow you to treasure quality time with each other on this once in a lifetime day. Family and friends will have a more memorable experience, and we won’t have to be pushy in an effort to complete all the required tasks. With a relaxed timeframe, we can add more creativity in producing beautiful wedding photos for you.

The Perfect time of day

The timing on the Wedding day is ultra important. Bridal photos at sundown are a beautiful and magical experience. This time of day, known as the golden hour, produces beautiful light and is perfect for creating stunning bridal portraits. Where possible, planning your wedding day to incorporate even just a touch of this golden hour will provide amazing images.

Standard Wedding coverage

Standard coverage concludes at the beginning of the reception. There are options to have exclusive coverage of the groomsmen preparations and comprehensive coverage of the reception.

If your day is planned differently, we are happy to adjust to cater directly to your needs.

How to photograph mountain bike riders in action

Tips on how to photograph mountain bike riders

Photograph mountain bike riders

In this blog post, I will share some tips on how to photograph mountain bike riders. I like to take my kids to a pretty famous mountain bike park in the Perth hills. You may have heard of the GOAT FARM. It’s a pretty popular mountain bike track with plenty of natural and also man-made obstacles, trails and jumps. I even take the occasional family portrait here, as it’s just a really nice place to go.

I even take the occasional family portrait here, as it’s just a really nice place to go.

The Goat Farm

The Goat farm is located in Greenmount just as you get towards the bottom section of the Perth hills. For us, it’s only a few minutes away. The Goat farm is great for riders of all ages.

For the professional mountain bike rider, it offers a good training track for serious competitions and events. Casual amateur riders find it’s a fun way to spend a few hours after work or in the evening. For the kids, it’s a great place to burn off all that energy and learn a few skills on how to handle the mountain bike.

My kids actually take their BMX bikes too and they have a great time. It’s amazing for their confidence.

Not being a super talented on the jumps myself, I prefer to take my camera up and take photos of the mountain bike riders doing jumps, tricks and the occasional stack. I also happen to be quite scared of coming off the bike too, so with my camera in hand I feel pretty safe.

A mine site photographer back on the tools

By 0 No tags Permalink 0

Mine site photographer.

I have been a Professional Photographer for almost 20 years and covered many projects and commissions. I’ve done most things within the industry. However, I have only done a little as a mine site photographer. But, what was my former life like? Well, I have worn many capes before and even wore my undies on the outside of my clothes(Well almost).

The first mine site experience

If you rewind the clock back 20+ years ago, I was plying my trade as a Boilermaker. Yes, that’s right, I was one of those guys that liked to wear leather and do it in all positions. I would weld, gouge, repair and manufacture all things metal. I spent many days away from home on mine sites all over Australia.

A New Career

Then one day, I decided on a change. I didn’t instantly put down the oxy torch and pick up a camera and I definitely did not consider becoming a mine site photographer. That would come a few years later. But it was while sweltering on a remote mine site in the blazing heat, with dust and fumes all around me, that I decided that I needed some kind of change.

Shutdown work

Recently a touch of curiosity got the better of me. A friend (let’s call him that) invited me to join him on a special mission to do a shutdown at a remote mine site in WA’s north. Without much hesitation and with the promise of treasure as a reward, I embarked on the journey.

The journey and the reward

Word probably won’t give a true indication of how much of a mission this was, so I hope that the pictures will give tell the story. It was a month in my life, I will never forget. Forever the social butterfly I made many new friends. It wasn’t quite boilermaking, however, I was able to lean on a few old tricks. Plus I learned a whole lot of new ones too.

So get make yourself comfortable. Sit back in your favourite chair with a bowl of ice cream and enjoy the show. My latest crazy adventure.

A romantic session In the woods

A romantic session in the woods.

I wanted to plan a romantic session for a couple who have their wedding coming up very soon. How about a little pre-wedding portrait session in the woods of Mundaring? Yes, that’s right! It’s not all bush, there are some woods in Mundaring too. The perfect place for this romantic session to be held.

We found a nice little pine plantation tucked away in the Perth Hills. The plantation became the exact type of location for Neil and Courtneys pre-wedding photographs.

Our first meeting

Neil and I first met quite a few years ago. He and his brother and sister along with the family dog had photographs with our studio. Together they had some portraits taken along the swan river for as a surprise birthday gift for their mother. The 3 sibling got on so well, and their dog provided some extra fun and laughter. Needless to say, their Mum made compliments that the gift was very thoughtful and beautiful.

The engagement party

Fast forward a few years. Neil makes contact with me again with the news that he is engaged to the fabulous Courtney. He invites me to photograph their engagement party held at the Guildford Rose and Crown.

While at the party I noticed a few familiar faces. I meet Neil’s brother and sister once again. Other faces at the party also look very familiar to me. Courtney’s Father and Brother seem very recognisable too.

A few conversations later, a connection is made. Both of them work at our local swimming hole, Bilgoman swimming pool. Earlier in the week, in fact, my children had swimming lessons at the pool. After the swimming lesson, while the kids played, these were the two gentlemen who looked after them very well.

The engagement party of Neil and Courtney was a huge success. Quickly they continued to plan their upcoming Wedding day. My next job is photographing their pre-wedding portraits or love bird session. Time certainly flew.  A summer kayaking accident I had made a minor delay to their booking. Their pre-wedding portrait photo shoot was pushed back to late summer.

The perfect light

The light this afternoon for the romantic session was sensational. The little cosy spot tucked away in the woods was perfect for a romantic session.

Finding the right light is the key to making good portraits. Perth weather offers very little cloud filter from the sun’s powerful rays. Choosing a time when the light is less harsh will give the best results. Light for portrait sessions that is less harsh can be formed and shaped for the desired effect.

The colour scheme chosen by Neil and Courtney worked well with the mood of the pine forest. With the light delightful, our session continued until the sun had finally gone down on this magical day.

The Pre-Wedding portrait process

Pre-wedding portraits are such an important part of the wedding booking process. Bridal couples begin understanding what the Wedding day will feel like. This comes without the pressures of crowds and time constraints.

Each couple has an opportunity to spend some quality time together. For many couples, this is the first time they are photographed together professionally.

Our photographic journey together begins too. Our next booking together will be their wedding, followed by the first baby photographs and sooner or later a full family portrait is on the cards

Wedding day Looming

Keep an eye out for this coming Octobers wedding. Neil and Courtney have a beautiful wedding day planned in the Perth Hills.
