The Best time for family portraits

The timing and light of the photo shoot will determine the finishing style of your portraits. Location portrait sessions include the options of warming up in the morning light, basking in the golden afternoon sun or grooving in the moody twilight.

Portraits photographed in stark daylight will often have harsh shadows and features. Outdoor portraits taken in direct sunlight may cause squinting and unsightly lines. Wintery or overcast days are the general exception. Soft warm skin tones and beautiful catchlights in the eyes are best when the sun is softer and less direct. Portrait sessions during the afternoon golden hour or in the warming morning light period will evenly light each family member and provide vibrant golden tones for a stunning portrait.
